This Global Climate Coalition (GCC) press release touted the United States government presenting its National Action Plan to the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee. The industry-funded GCC opposed greenhouse gas regulations through direct engagement and collaboration with affiliated climate deniers from 1989 to 2002. Its membership spanned across the automotive, utility, manufacturing, petroleum, and mining industries.
Though this document supported greenhouse gas emission reductions, it still emphasized scientific uncertainty in regards to climate change. Specifically, the GCC emphasized “significant disagreements … concerning everything from the validity of computer models that are used to predict a dangerous warming trend, to the role of man-made greenhouse gases in altering the dynamics of the natural greenhouse effect.” The GCC targeted climate modeling often and emphasized natural warming over anthropogenic climate change.
This document is part of the private collection of Nicky Sundt, a Washington-based climate change science, policy and communications expert.
