1994 Shell Selected Paper “Energy for Development”

This paper by Shell’s Group Planning Director Peter Kassler, a part of a larger collection discovered by Jelmer Mommers of De Correspondent in a trove of internal Royal Dutch/Shell Group (“Shell”) documents, reflects the company’s perspective on global energy sources and consumption.

As it related to environmental issues, the author relied on “market instruments leading to decreases in global energy intensity.” Further, the report detailed that current CO2 emitting energy forms will peak by 2040. This information has “powerful implications for the climate change debate.”
