This compilation of documents examines and details the climate change discussions and events held by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) since 1998. The first several pages document the agenda for the 25th annual meeting of ALEC in 1998. The weekend-long meeting hosted several workshops and presentations focused on highlighting the “doubts” surrounding climate change. For instance, one workshop held during the meeting questioned the assertion that “human activity has caused an overall warming of the planet.” This showcases that ALEC has been participating in the climate change misinformation campaign since at least 1998.
Additionally, there are documents from the ALEC Energy, Environment and Agriculture Task Force meeting in 2014, in which they gave a presentation titled, “Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change Update.” The presentation contains claims that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Chance (IPCC), a project of the U.N. is “not a credible source of science or economics.” In addition, the presentation showcases that ALEC conducted an intense campaign to reduce regulations in almost every energy or environmental sector.
