This document is a 1991 Global Climate Coalition memorandum addressed to “interested parties” from John Cohen of National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the trade association within which the GCC started. The industry-funded GCC opposed greenhouse gas regulations through direct engagement and collaboration with affiliated climate deniers from 1989 to 2002. Its membership spanned across the automotive, utility, manufacturing, petroleum, and mining industries.
The memo includes a membership list and an “organization and staffing proposal” detailing the GCC’s efforts to formalize the organization as a 501(C)(6). The proposal outlines the organization’s structure with section titles including:
- Board of Directors
- Operating Committee
- Selection of Operating Committee
- Terms of the Operating Committee Members
- Policy Development and Dispute Resolution
- Staffing Recommendations
- Tentative Start-up Expense Budget
- Annual Dues Structure
- Transition
This document is part of the private collection of Nicky Sundt, a Washington-based climate change science, policy and communications expert.
