This 2000 Global Climate Coalition (GCC) press release, preserved on the Internet Archive, discusses the group’s change in structure – allowing only trade associations to be members. The industry-funded GCC opposed greenhouse gas regulations through direct engagement and collaboration with affiliated climate deniers from 1989 to 2002. Before this period, the GCC’s membership spanned across the automotive, utility, manufacturing, petroleum, and mining industries.
Starting in 1996 until 2000, there was a large exodus of GCC corporate members, some citing the GCC’s stance on climate science and regulatory action. This release also announced the GCC’s “21st Century Climate Action Agenda,” available here.
