This 2000 document is a letter from Brian Flannery, an Exxon climate scientist, to Dr. Lloyd Keigwin, discussing a prior call between the two. Keigwin is a senior scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and he published a piece on the Sargasso Sea surface temperatures. According to Flannery’s letter, Keigwin accused Exxon of misrepresenting his Sargasso Sea data. Flannery states that Exxon used Keigwin’s work as evidence of the variability and unpredictability of human impact on the climate. Flannery also points out that Exxon has spent 20 years maintaining an “objective, rigorous approach to understanding scientific . . .   matters relating to climate change.”
